When we think about the sectors that are being shaped by additive manufacturing, defense is undoubtedly one that comes to mind. This is especially the case in the United States, where the Department of Defense (DoD) has been leading the charge for AM adoption across the military supply chain with initiatives like the DoD Additive Manufacturing Strategy. And what better way to learn about it than by attending the 9th annual Military Additive Manufacturing Summit & Technology Showcase (MILAM)? This premier event for military, aerospace and defense professionals is dedicated to exploring the forefront of 3D printing technologies in this industry, and the 2025 summit builds upon the success of previous editions.
MILAM 2025 is taking place this year on February 11-12, with a workshop day on February 13, at the Tampa Convention Center in Florida. It is an important platform for the military, government, international partners and industry professionals to “connect, collaborate and strategize” on the integration of additive technologies. Considering that, according to a report from AM Research, direct US DoD spending on AM was estimated at around $800M in 2024, that is certainly a high priority.
Many additive manufacturing companies will be present at MILAM 2025 as exhibitors
Indeed, the Summit is the perfect opportunity to expand networks, explore diverse industry products and services and gain insights into the future of global AM technologies, according to a press release from the organizers. For example, through conferences and workshops, it will be possible for attendees to explore how crucial AM is for the DoD and Federal Government initiatives. This is due to AM’s ability to increase supply chain resilience and reduce logistical constraints thanks to on-demand spare parts made using the technologies.
Once again, leaders in the defense world will be speakers at the event
The speakers are also of note. Currently, MILAM 2025 has key leaders in this sector such as Tracy Frost, the Director of the Technology Industrial Innovation Base at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Science and Technology, Keith DeVries who is the Director of the DOD Manufacturing Technology Program at OUSD and commanders from the Air Force and Navy (both of which have been quick to adopt AM technologies), among many others. Showing clearly that MILAM 2025 is the place to be for any interested in the intersection between the military, defense and additive manufacturing.
Registration is currently open, and better yet, the event is complimentary for active-duty military and government employees. Be sure to register HERE.
